Step 1: First Impressions

Depending on the scope of your project, we schedule a meeting with you at your site or at our showroom to understand your wants and needs for your design-build project. If at your site, we may be able to measure and provide a preliminary 3D model of a potential design.

Step 2: Design & Proposal

In the next step, we'll provide you with a preliminary design and establish a targeted budget for your project, along with potential timelines. We take pride in providing you with a transparent breakdown of costs so you can make an informed and confident decision.

Step 3: Materials & Permits

At this stage, we work together to finalize your design, begin gathering materials, and obtain any and all permits required. This stage is critical in our partnership. We will also pin down dates and benchmarks for a successful project and avoid cost overruns and delays.

Step 4: Design-Build Project Starts

At this phase of your project, we've forecasted and scheduled all construction stages. We start our deconstruction discovery and provide you with information every step of the way. We work together hand in hand to make informed decisions if issues like hidden damages or unforeseen construction anomalies come up.

Step 5: Project Progress

This step in our design-build process involves project progression and continuing to work on your design-build. We will provide you with real-time updates of the construction progress and welcome real-time feedback from you to make sure you are confident in how things are going.

Step 6: Project Completion & Delivery

This is the last step in our design-build process, where we do final touches, adding personalized details like smart technology and unique touches specific to your day-to-day use of the space. Before we leave you to enjoy your new space, we provide a professional deep cleaning service to make sure it's ready for use.

Accessory Building vs. ADU: Two Different Projects

An accessory building is a garage, workshop, or storage structure with no kitchen or living plumbing. An ADU is a small detached home with its own kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping space. The two get built, permitted, and priced differently. Knowing which one you want saves you a lot of confusion.

Here's where people get tangled up. Someone calls us wanting a detached garage, but they keep saying they might rent it out someday. That single sentence changes everything. A workshop with a slab, some outlets, and a roll-up door is one kind of remodel. A structure with a bedroom, a bathroom, and a stove is a different animal entirely, legally and structurally.

Lakewood has a lot of older lots with detached garages already sitting on them, some from decades back and never updated. Folks often want to replace one of those with something bigger for a workshop or storage. That's a straightforward accessory building remodel. Once you add plumbing for a kitchen or a shower meant for someone to live there full time, you've crossed into ADU territory. That means separate systems, separate inspections, and a longer permitting path.

We build both. Custom Garage and Workshop Construction and Custom ADU Construction are separate services for a reason; they solve different problems.
